Accessibility at Elms Farm Cottages

Elms Farm Cottages is a collection of award winning holiday cottages with wider doorways and step free level access suitable for assisted wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility. Several cottages have wet room shower rooms with grab rails, raised toilets and emergency pull cords. Our large level tarmac car park has disabled parking bays offering guests step-free access from car to cottage.

The Granary our wedding and conference barn is fully accessible to wheelchair users or less mobile guests with step-free level access, wider doorways and wheelchair accessible toilets.

Beech, Holly, Walnut and Willow Cottages have two small twin bedrooms, a wet room shower with a raised toilet, emergency pull cord, drop down and fixed grab rail next to the toilet. The wash basin and showers also have grab rails. Each cottage has a shower stool. These four cottages have an open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a patio door to an outside seating and grassed area. They have connecting doors in the lounge area which are often popular with family groups or carers. A shower wheelchair or bed rail can be pre booked.(no charge/limited availability for bed rails and shower wheelchairs). Beech, Holly, Walnut ,Willow, Stables and Elm have electric rise and recline chairs.

A small ramp with a hand rail leads into the courtyard where Elm Cottage sits. Elm holiday cottage has a double bedroom with an en-suite wet room shower. (The double bedroom has room for an electric profile bed which can be hired if required. Elm has a shower stool, a grab rail in the shower and also next to the toilet. Elm does not have a raised toilet. (we have a portable raised seat/frame that can be requested for use in Elm) The second bedroom is a large a twin bedroom that has a bathroom with a shower over the bath (Bath step and seat can be requested) and a third bedroom has a kingsize with a small ensuite shower room. The kingsize is not accessible for a wheelchair. Elm Cottage has a small central lounge/kitchen/diner with a wood burner and patio doors to the courtyard garden and the grass paddock. Elm Cottage has an electric riser /recline chair. A large patio area overlooking the grass paddock has a table and chairs for outdoor dining plus a fire pit. A hot tub on the patio of Elm is an optional extra (steps to enter the hot tub).

Oak Cottage has one double with ensuite shower and a twin bedroom with a shower room next to it. (both shower rooms have large shower trays with a glass screen, not suitable for wheelchairs) Oak has a large open plan lounge/kitchen diner with a wood burner and patio doors to a large outside seating area overlooking the grass paddock with a table and chairs plus a fire bowl. Oak Cottage has wider doorways and level access throughout. A Hot Tub on the patio area of Oak is available to book as an optional extra, please note the Hot tub is on a raised decking area with steps (no hand rails to hot tub).

Yew and Ash Cottages are next to each other overlooking the courtyard garden. Each cottage has one king-size and one twin bedroom, a family shower room with a large shower tray and glass screen. Both cottages have a sunny lounge/dining area with modern fully fitted kitchens, wider doorways and level step free access. Yew Cottage has a wood burner.

The Stables Cottage has a wide accessible step free entrance door into a large open plan lounge, kitchen,diner.. The Stables has three large bedrooms, two king-size bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom plus a twin bedroom and a level walk in shower room with a shower seat. This wet room is step free and has a fixed head shower suitable for guests with limited mobility who are able to take a few steps. Stables wet room is not suitable for wheelchairs due to turning space.

All cottages are fitted and furnished to a high standard with stylish soft furnishings, modern kitchens, leather sofas, wood floors, wall mounted flat screen TVs with Freeview. All double and kingsize bedrooms have a wall mounted TV.

Each of our level access wet rooms have a shower seat and guests can request a shower wheelchair if required. Also availabe are perching stools, bed rail, bath step and bath seat. (Please request when booking, all subject to availability).

If you require a Profile bed, hoist or other equipment please check with us before arranging to hire items. Some of our cottages are more suitable than others. We can also move furniture to suit your needs. You can then hire direct from these companies and your equipment will be in your cottages ready for your arrival. Elms Farm has an accessible guest laundry with tourist information, shopping ideas and restaurant/farmshop details

We have over 18 acres of grass paddocks and two small lakes with mown pathways suitable for motorised wheelchair users. The BBQ lodge and outdoor dining area is accessed by a small ramp.
